Mumbai: With the announcement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 schedule by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), cricket fans have started discussing various issues related to the upcoming mega event. One of the talking points is who will take over the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings after Mahindra Singh Dhoni leaves. Former India Test cricketer Parthiv Patel says that England all-rounder Moeen Ali could be a captaincy option for CSK.
Speaking exclusively on ‘Match Center Live’, Parthiv Patel said, ‘There is one name I would like to mention, that is Moeen Ali. We have to see if Rituraj Gaikwad is ready for the captaincy. And if you are talking about Ben Stokes and his captaincy, as you know, the Ashes are going to start immediately after the IPL and how much the England board will allow him to play remains to be seen. Patel said that one positive in Moeen’s favor is that he will be available for the entire IPL 2023 as he does not play Tests. So he will not have to go for the Ashes series. However, Moeen Ali is the type of player who does not play Test matches and captains England when Jos Buttler is injured or unavailable, Patel said. So, he can be a short-term option, as CSK and Mumbai always look for long-term options.
Parthiv said he has the experience of playing alongside Moeen at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and feels the England player has leadership qualities. The former India wicket-keeper said that CSK will have to bring new energy to the home ground and focus on positive energy.
