Ahmedabad | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming praised Ravindra Jadeja for his match-winning performance, saying that the all-rounder is an attacking player and he did a great job for the team in the final. Jadeja’s contribution with the bat has been mixed this season but he proved to be the hero for CSK in the all-important IPL final against Gujarat Titans (GT) here on Monday.
In a rain-hit thriller, Jadeja hit a six and a four to reach the required 10 runs off the last two balls as Chennai chased down the revised target of 171 in 15 overs. With this, CSK won its fifth IPL title.
After the match, Fleming praised the 34-year-old Jadeja’s impressive performance and emphasized his significant contribution as a bowler to the team.
Jadeja has had a stellar season for CSK with the ball. He took 20 wickets in 16 matches this season.
He was very good today. It’s probably been a tough 18 months where captaincy was tough. Injury also made it difficult for him. It took him a while to get out of the game and get strong again in Tests and then joined CSK. He plays a big role with the ball. But we have got such good batsmen that sometimes we use them in the lower order.
Fleming praised skipper MS Dhoni for promoting Jadeja up the order.
MS has been really positive and proactive in getting them there and today they have repaid that faith. That six that came off a ball that was on the right length defines his batting prowess. Then a drive over fine leg was a great way to end the match.
He said, I am very happy for him. Yes, there is some frustration at times, but he is a gun player. No. 1 ranked player and he did well today.
