South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has requested a break from his role as the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, even though the franchise will appoint a captain for the upcoming season of the tournament starting on March 22. According to a report in Cricbuzz, Steyn is said to have asked the franchise about a break from his coaching role in Hyderabad for this year. It said that the franchise is now looking for a new bowling coach and an announcement in this regard can be made soon.

Apart from playing 93 Tests, 125 ODIs and 47 T20 matches for South Africa in his illustrious international career, Steyn also played for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.

In 2022, Steyn joined the Hyderabad franchise in the role of a bowling coach and was credited with playing a big role in the development of fast bowler Umran Malik, who earned India caps in T20 and ODI and was recently awarded the BCCI Got a chance for a fast bowling contract.

The report also states that Steyn is expected to return to the franchise next season as long as all the necessary arrangements and requirements are completed. Hyderabad was captained by Aiden Markram in the last two seasons, but he did not get much success.
