Sydney. Australian batsman David Warner has announced the end of his Test career as well as his retirement from ODI cricket.

David Warner announced his retirement from ODI cricket on the very first day of the New Year.

In a press conference held on Monday, Australian cricket legend David Warner officially announced his retirement from ODI cricket.

Warner had considered retiring from the 50-over format during the 2023 World Cup.

“I am definitely retiring from ODI cricket as well. It was something I thought about during the World Cup. Winning the World Cup in India is a big achievement,” Warner said.

Warner also mentioned the 2025 Champions Trophy in the press conference.

“I know there’s a Champions Trophy coming, and if I’m still playing good cricket after two years and they need someone, I’ll be available,” he said.

Warner, 37, revealed that his decision to retire from ODIs was taken after the World Cup win in India, where he played a key role as Australia’s leading run-scorer.

The announcement came as Warner prepares for his final Test match at his home ground. However, he will continue to play T20.

He will be available for T20 cricket and aims to feature in Australia’s World Cup campaign in the T20 format in the Caribbean and the United States in June.

He decided to retire from this format with an impressive record of 6,932 runs at an average of 45.30 including 22 centuries.

After Warner, only Ricky Ponting has the most ODI centuries among Australian players.

Looking to the future, Warner expressed interest in playing the Big Bash League (BBL) next year alongside his commentary commitments for Fox Cricket.

He stressed the importance of not hindering or upsetting the team’s performance by playing multiple roles.
