centurion (Uttam Hindu News): The African team, which defeated India by an innings and 32 runs in the Centurion Test, has suffered a big shock. The team’s regular captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the second and last Test match of the series.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed this on Thursday. Dean Elgar will captain the team in the last match of his international career in place of Temba Bavuma.
He had announced his decision to retire before the series. At the same time, Zubair Hamza has been included in the team as a replacement for Bavuma.
Bavuma suffered the injury while fielding on the first day of the first Test at SuperSport Park on Tuesday and scans revealed a hamstring injury, ruling him out of South Africa’s first innings.
He will have to undergo a medical before the start of SA20 to determine his availability for Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
After Bavuma left the field during the first Test, Elgar captained South Africa’s innings and 32-run win at Centurion.
Elgar is not new to captaincy. He has led the Proteas before, including the last time India toured South Africa for a Test series.
Then, after falling 1-0 in the year 2022-23, the African team under the leadership of Elgar came back and won 2-1.
