Deepak, Hussamuddin, Nishant won historic bronze in World Championship

Tashkent (Best Hindu News): Indian boxers Deepak Bhoria and Nishant Dev settled for bronze medals after losing their respective semi-final bouts at the World Boxing Championships here on Friday.

In the 51kg category, Deepak went down 3-4 to France’s Bilal Bainema in a close semi-final after a bout review. Kazakhstan’s Aslanbek Shimberganov defeated Nishant 5-2 in the 71kg category.

Earlier, Asian Championship medalist Mohd Hussamuddin (57kg) settled for bronze after pulling out of the semi-finals due to a knee injury.

Hussamuddin suffered a knee injury during the quarterfinal bout, which left him with pain and swelling. After the medical team assessed the severity of the knee injury, the Indian team management has decided not to take part in Friday’s semi-final bout.

Asian Games 2019 silver medalist Deepak displayed unwavering composure and gave a tough fight to Bilal. The Hisar-born boxer started the bout cautiously and won the first round 3-2. Deepak won the second round as well, but after a thrilling contest in the third round, the French boxer managed to win by a point.

Like Deepak, Nishant also lost after the bout review. The 22-year-old boxer displayed an aggressive attitude throughout the bout, but despite his best efforts, failed to defeat the Kazakh boxer.

India ended their campaign at the World Championships with three bronze medals, the country’s best performance in any edition of the global event. Deepak, Nishant and Hussamuddin, who have registered their names in the history of Indian boxing, will be honored with prize money of US $ 50,000 by the International Boxing Association (IBA). India has now won a total of 10 medals including one silver and nine bronze in the history of the World Championships.
