Deepti Sharma all-round performance helps UP Warriors register a thrilling one-run win over Delhi Capitals

New Delhi, , In a thrilling Women’s Premier League match, UP Warriors managed to defend the lowest score so far in the tournament by taking three wickets each in the last two overs and defeating Delhi Capitals by just one run on Friday. Deepti Sharma took four wickets for 19 runs in her four overs with three wickets in four balls in the 19th over.
In the match played here at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Deepti also played a quick inning of 59 runs in 48 balls and played an important role in taking the Warriors’ score to 138/8 in the stipulated 20 overs.
In a thrilling match, Delhi needed 15 runs in the last two overs to win, but Deepti walked three batsmen in the 19th over and pushed the host team on the backfoot on a sluggish pitch.

Delhi, chasing the target, got the initial blow when Saima Thakor blew away the off stump of Shafali Verma. Meg had excellent timing with the good Delhi crowd and hit boundaries on both sides of the wicket. His four on the off side against Saima was worth watching. But Deepti created a twist in the 19th over by dismissing Annabel Sutherland and Arundhati Reddy at long-on on consecutive balls. Shikha Pandey hit a four over Deepti’s head but the next ball played back into the bowler’s hands. In the final over, when Delhi needed 10 runs to win, Radha hit Grace Harris over the cow corner fence. Where Poonam Khemnar could not take the catch and the ball hit the boundary cushion for six runs. Another twist came when Radha blew away her stumps and Jess was run out trying to take a single off consecutive balls. With two runs needed, Titas Sadhu was caught straight to mid-on, giving the Warriors an unexpected win to keep their knockout hopes alive.
