Wrestler Bajrang Punia was granted one day’s exemption by a Delhi court from appearing personally in the criminal defamation complaint filed by wrestling coach Naresh Dahiya.
A Delhi court granted one day exemption to wrestler Bajrang Punia from personal appearance in the case of a criminal defamation complaint filed against him by wrestling coach Naresh Dahiya. Metropolitan Magistrate Yashdeep Chahal granted relief to Poonia after his lawyer informed that he has gone to Kyrgyzstan for a practice session in view of the upcoming Asian Games.
Earlier on September 6, the judge had granted one day’s exemption to Bajrang from personal appearance on medical grounds as his lawyer had said he was suffering from fever. The judge on August 3 has directed Bajrang to appear before the court on September 6. He had said that prima facie there appears to be a case of contempt against the wrestler.
Dahiya has claimed that Bajrang, along with other wrestlers/individuals, spoke at a press conference at Jantar Mantar on May 10 about the alleged harassment of some women wrestlers by outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and Bharatiya Janata Party MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh. Derogatory remarks were made against her during protests against sexual harassment.
