Deodhar Trophy: Riyan Parag and Moorasingh rocked, East Zone won the match by 157 runs

Riyan Parag’s second century in three matches and Manishankar Moorasingh’s five-wicket haul helped East Zone beat West Zone by 157 runs in a league match of the Deodhar Trophy one-day cricket tournament here on Tuesday. Parag scored an unbeaten 102 off just 68 balls with five sixes and six fours as East Zone posted a score of 319 for seven in 50 overs. Moorasingh then took five wickets for 28 runs in seven overs, due to which the West Zone team was bundled out for just 162 runs in 34 overs.

Utkarsh Singh also took three wickets for East Zone along with scoring a half-century. Kumar Kushagra (53 runs in 47 balls, six fours) also scored a half-century. Saurashtra opener Harvik Desai was able to bat from the West Zone side. He scored an inning of 92 runs in 92 balls with 13 fours and two sixes, but could not save his team from defeat. Chasing the target, West Zone lost the wicket of Samarth Vyas (12) in the third over itself, who was sent to the pavilion by Akash Deep. Fast bowler Moorasingh trapped Rahul Tripathi (01) in his fifth and first over of the innings.

Markande and Rana shine in North Zone’s victory

Presenting a brilliant example of their all-round game in North Zone, they defeated Eastern Zone by nine wickets in the round robin match of Deodhar Trophy cricket competition here on Tuesday. North Zone bowled out Eastern Zone for 101 runs in 32.1 overs and then scored 102 runs for one wicket in just 12.5 overs to register a big win. For North Zone, spinner Mayank Markande took four wickets for 14 runs, while fast bowler Mayank Yadav took three wickets for 21 runs.

Apart from them, fast bowlers Vaibhav Arora and Rishi Dhawan and left-arm spinner Nishant Sindhu took one wicket each. Captain Langlonyamba Meetan Keeshangbam was able to play for the Eastern Zone. He scored 36 runs in 69 balls. North Zone did not have a good start and lost the wicket of opener Shubham Khajuria (06) in the third over itself. After this, Prabhsimran Singh and Himanshu Rana shared an unbroken 93-run partnership for the second wicket to take the team to the target. Prabhsimran scored an unbeaten 40 off 35 balls with the help of seven fours and a six, while Rana scored an unbeaten 52 off 33 balls.
