Hardik Pandya has returned home to Mumbai Indians. Hardik will once again be seen playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024. News agency PTI has confirmed this. Earlier, Pandya was included in the retention list given by Gujarat Titans, which surprised everyone. But the trade was completed after the initial retention period expired. The retention deadline ended on 26 November but the trading window would remain open till 12 December, hence the deal could be completed. It is believed that this was a purely cash deal and no other player was included in the deal to exchange Pandya. In IPL, Gujarat Titans have confirmed that they will have a new captain in the form of Shubman Gill before the Indian Premier League 2024. This decision had to be taken after IPL 2022 title-winning captain Hardik Pandya decided to return as his former captain.
Despite being a better option, Shubman was given command of the team.
Gujarat Titans had plenty of options to choose from as Hardik’s successor, including players like Kane Williamson and Rashid Khan. Nevertheless, the Titans have decided to give the captain’s cap to Gill. In a statement issued by Gujarat Titans, Gill said, ‘I am happy and proud to take over the captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for trusting me to lead such a good team. We have had two exceptional seasons and I look forward to leading the team with our exciting brand of cricket.
Hardik took Gujarat to the finals twice
Before joining Gujarat Titans in 2022, Hardik Pandya played seven seasons of IPL for Mumbai Indians. After joining Gujarat Titans, Pandya led the team to two consecutive IPL finals. He won the trophy for his team in the very first attempt. But in the second season, his team lost to MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the final.
