Dhanush Srikanth wins third gold for India in Junior World Cup shooting

Suhl (Germany). Dhanush Srikanth won India’s third gold medal on the third day of the Junior World Cup Shooting here. In the men’s 10m air rifle event organized by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), Dhanush shot 249.4 in the 24-shot final to edge out silver medalist Pontus Collin of Sweden by 1.3 points in a closely fought contest. Romain Aufrere of France won the bronze medal.

India also won a bronze medal in the skeet mixed team event. Harmehar Lally and Sanjana Sood once again defeated their Swedish opponents, David Jonsson and Felicia Ros, in the shoot-off for the bronze medal.

India now leads the medal tally with three gold, one silver and two bronze medals. America has so far won two gold and one silver medal. The women’s 10m air rifle final is also to be held late tonight.

Three Indians made it to the finals of the junior men’s 10m air rifle. Dhanush had finished sixth in the qualifiers with a score of 628.4. Pratham Bhadana qualified in the fifth position with a score of 628.7 and Abhinav Shyam qualified in the eighth and last position with a score of 626.7.

In the final, Abhinav finished seventh while Pratham finished fourth and missed out on a medal. Dhanush appeared in a different color in the finale. He was ahead from the start and did not give any chance to the opponents while continuously increasing his score.

There were two Indian teams in the skeet mixed team event. The pair of Ritu Raj Bundela and Raija Dhillon shot 134 to finish seventh in qualifying. The other pair of Harmehar Lali and Sanjana Sood shot 136 out of 150 to qualify for the bronze medal match by finishing fourth.

There they faced the Swedish pair of David Jonsson and Felicia Ros, who finished third with a score of 137.
