New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Brian Lara rated Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan’s knock against his team as one of the best T20 innings he has ever played.
Batting after losing the toss, Punjab scored 143/9 in 20 overs. While other Punjab batsmen failed miserably, skipper Dhawan fought single-handedly for his team, scoring an unbeaten 99 off 66 balls.
Lara told the official broadcaster of the Indian Premier League, “I have to praise Shikhar Dhawan. I think it is one of the best innings I have seen in T20 cricket so far.
Dhawan got the support of Sam Karan for some time, but he also returned to the pavilion after scoring 22 runs. After Punjab fell for nine wickets for 88 runs, Dhawan himself played the last five overs and took the team to a respectable score.
“The way he paced the innings and controlled the game completely was amazing,” Lara said.
Lara’s compatriot Chris Gayle also agreed with him, saying that Dhawan deserved a hundred but unfortunately missed out by just one run.
Gayle said, “Shikhar had a great performance for his team, but when your team keeps losing wickets, it is not easy to keep your composure and score 99 runs.”
He said, “I think he deserved the century. This is one of the best innings ever in IPL as well.
