Bengaluru: Former India and Chennai Super Kings batsman Ambati Rayudu said on Friday that Mahendra Singh Dhoni can use the Impact Player rule to hand over the captaincy in the middle overs to someone else during the upcoming season of IPL so that the future captain can be groomed.

CSK had handed over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja in 2022 but after consecutive defeats, he left the captaincy midway and Dhoni became the captain again. Since then Dhoni is the captain and he led CSK to the fifth title in 2023.

Star Sports, who bid goodbye to all forms of cricket last year, told the press room, “Through the impact player rule, Dhoni can hand over the captaincy to someone else in the middle overs.” This year could be a year of change for CSK. If this is his last year, if he plays for a few more years then he will be the captain.
