Donjeta Sadiku withdraws from Boxing Championship, not allowed to use his country’s flag

New Delhi (Best Hindu News): Kosovo boxer Donjeta Sadiku, who won the bronze medal in the Istanbul World Championships last year, has withdrawn from the World Women’s Boxing Championships. Osmani, president of the Kosovo Boxing Federation, has accused on social media that he has taken this step after he was not allowed to play under his country’s flag in Delhi.

Kosovo, which broke away from Serbia, is not recognized by the Indian government as a country, due to which Sadiku was denied a visa for the 2018 Delhi World Championships and the 2019 Youth World Championships in Guwahati. This time also he was not getting visa, but on 13th March he was given visa to come to India in Sofia (Bulgaria). Osmani alleges that the visa was granted, but with the condition that he would not be allowed to use the Kosovo flag or raise his country’s flag during the championships. After this he withdrew from the championship.

The IBA said in a statement that the International and Indian Boxing Associations made every effort to get Kosovo to participate in the Delhi Championships, with the Indian government extending full cooperation and providing visas. It is unfortunate that the boxer from Kosovo has refused to compete in the championship. The International Boxing Federation always stands by the right of the athlete to play under the flag of his country, but it cannot affect the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
