ChennaiFormer India wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik has questioned the zonal selection committee for dropping Tamil Nadu middle-order batsman Baba Indrajith from the South Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy starting later this month. He has been one of the consistent performers for Tamil Nadu in recent years. However, the zonal selectors overlooked him and all-rounder Vijay Shankar for the competition, which begins on June 28.
Karthik wrote in his tweet that he doesn’t understand the selection committee these days. “I don’t understand the selection committee these days. Baba Inderjit plays for Rest of India against Madhya Pradesh in the first week of March 2023. There has been no first-class match since then, but he does not feature for South Zone in the Duleep Trophy. Can anyone tell me why ??” The South Zone selection committee selected the 15-member squad during its meeting in Goa on Tuesday (June 13).
KS Bharath, who played for India, recently played in the World Test Championship final against Australia in London which India lost by 209 runs. Bharath has been named as the wicket-keeper along with his Andhra teammate Ricky Bhui. . In case he is selected for the two-Test series against the West Indies, Bharat may not be available to play in the entire tournament.
Former India player and all-rounder Hanuma Vihari has returned to competitive cricket as the captain of the South Zone team. Vihari has been sidelined since Andhra Pradesh’s Ranji Trophy 2022-23 quarterfinal loss to Madhya Pradesh in Indore after he suffered a wrist fracture.
