Dhanbad, Ashok Kumar: Students of Angibhoot Jamadoba Degree College of Binod Bihari Mahato Koylanchal University, Dhanbad have started cultivation of organic vegetables. The first crop will be ready by May. The elders of Lalmuni Old Age Home will taste these vegetables. This special initiative has been started in the degree college under community service. Principal Dr RP Singh said that the students have started community farming of vegetables in the college premises itself. The vegetables produced from here will be given free of cost to the old age home. This initiative of the college management is being appreciated at the university level. Currently, six types of summer growing vegetables have been planted in the Degree College. These include Nenua, Barbati, Saag, Brinjal, Ladyfinger and Pumpkin. Local vegetable growers are also helping the students in farming free of cost. Under his supervision, the students have prepared the beds and sown the seeds. Organic fertilizers are being used in farming. Water is taken from the college for irrigation. The first crop will start coming in May.

Vegetables being grown on 30 decimal land
The entire campus of the degree college is spread over 19 acres. Principal Prof RP Singh says that as a pilot project, vegetable cultivation has been started on about 30 decimal land. If the project is successful, another community service will be started. He said that the main objective of starting the project is to make students responsible citizens towards the country and society. He has been successful in this objective to a great extent. When he presented the proposal of starting the project to the students, a large number of students themselves came forward and expressed their desire to join it.

Degree college came into existence last year
Jamadoba Degree College is an affiliated college of BBMKU. Presently graduate level courses are taught here. Enrollment for the first batch of UG took place in 2023. About 650 students are studying in the college.

Community service to be started in colleges
BBMKU Vice Chancellor Prof. Pawan Kumar Poddar said that under the new education policy, community service is to be started in colleges. This is part of the syllabus. Efforts will be made to start such projects in other colleges of the university.
