Navi Mumbai (Uttam Hindu News): On the verge of becoming the first Australian player to play 300 matches in all formats of international women’s cricket, leading fast bowling all-rounder Ellyse Perry said she is also ready to play 400 matches.
When India take on Australia in the second T20I at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday evening, the 33-year-old Australian will become the fourth player after Ellis, Mithali Raj, Charlotte Edwards and Suzie Bates to play 300 matches in all formats of international women’s cricket.
Cricket.com.au quoted Ellis as saying, “I am ready for whatever comes my way in the next little while. I’m still absolutely relishing the opportunity to be a part of this group and I think everything is right and I would love to play 400 matches as well.
“But I don’t think any of us have a book looking into the future, so if things don’t go right, I’ve had my fair share of amazing experiences with this group. I guess it’s just another number, but as long as I can contribute to the team, I’d love to be a part of it.”
Ellis was dropped from the Australia T20 squad in early 2022, but he improved his game six months later to return to the side with consistently impressive innings against India at the end of the year. She also received a nomination for the ICC Women’s T20 Cricketer of the Year award for 2023.
Over the next 18 months, Australia will defend their World Cup titles in both T20 and ODI, in addition to hosting the Women’s Ashes on home soil. Ellis is eager to be part of the turnaround in Australia following the exit of regular captain and talismanic batsman Meg Lanning.
