New Delhi. Eoin Morgan led England to their maiden ICC Cricket World Cup title in 2019. He announced his retirement from all forms of professional cricket on Monday with immediate effect. Morgan had retired from international cricket in July last year after a career spanning 16 years. Which started with Ireland. He then moved to England, but continued to play in global franchise leagues around the world.
In his official statement, the 36-year-old player said, “I am happy that after much deliberation, I am announcing my retirement from all forms of cricket. I believe that now is the right time to step away from the cricket that has given me so much.” He has given so much over the years.
“From moving to England to join Middlesex in 2005, till the very end, playing for Paarl Royals in the SA20, I have cherished every moment. As in every player’s career, there have been ups and downs. But my family and friends have supported me through it all.”

He further added, “Playing for franchise teams around the world has given me so many memories that I will cherish forever.”

He said, since my retirement from international cricket, I will be spending more time with my loved ones. I hope to be able to do more and more of this in the future. Having said that, I will undoubtedly miss the thrill and challenges of playing professional cricket.

“However, I will continue to be involved with the game, working with broadcasters in international and franchise tournaments as a commentator and cricket pundit,” he added. To be honest, I am looking forward to the future.

Morgan remains England’s leading run-scorer – 6957 runs in 225 ODIs with 13 centuries and led the side to 76 wins in 126 matches to become the most successful captain in ODIs. In T20 Internationals, he has scored 2458 runs in 115 matches at a strike rate of 136.18, including 14 half-centuries.
Morgan, who was an integral part of England’s maiden ICC T20 World Cup triumph in the West Indies in 2010, led the team to a runners-up finish in the 2016 season in India. Overall, he led England to 42 T20I victories in 72 appearances.
