England’s Test playing style suits my game: Gus Atkinson

New Delhi . Ahead of the crucial five-match Test tour of India, England fast bowler Gus Atkinson believes the way the current team plays the format suits their game perfectly. Atkinson has played 12 white-ball matches for England, but has not got any opportunity at the Test level.
Atkinson took 20 wickets at an average of 20.20 in five County Championship matches last summer as Surrey won back-to-back titles. His genuine pace means England have included him alongside James Anderson, Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood on their tour of India, starting in Hyderabad on January 25.
“It’s been really great. Now I am looking forward to playing under Ben Stokes and Baz McCullum. The way the Test team is playing suits my game. I’m very excited about what’s to come next. India and the Ashes are the two tours you want to go on the most and it would be incredible to win in the next few weeks.
“Maybe it was a confidence thing when I wasn’t playing regular cricket but I think my pace came naturally,” Atkinson told the Daily Mail before leaving for Abu Dhabi for England’s pre-tour camp. Is. “People at the club kept telling me that they wanted me to go on, play all formats and get selected by England. I would say, ‘Yes, obviously I want that, it’s my dream.’ Maybe it will happen one day.’ But all this happening now is not something I would have expected 12 months ago.
In first-class cricket, Atkinson has taken 45 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 26.64. Atkinson also recalled how his mother Caroline, who died in a car crash in 2020, encouraged him to play cricket, including reaching out to his county club Surrey.
