Euro 2024 qualifiers: France beat Holland, Belgium also wins

London. World Cup runners-up France beat Holland 4-0 in their opening match of Euro 2024 qualifiers, while Belgium thrashed Sweden 3-0 thanks to a Romelu Lukaku hat-trick.

Five of Holland’s players were sent home on the eve of the match after contracting the flu virus. According to the report of Xinhua, Kylian Mbappe took over the captaincy of the French national team for the first time. Antoine Griezmann opened the account of France after two minutes. Six minutes later, defender Diot Upamecano scored the second goal.

Mbappe made the score 3-0 in the 21st minute. In the dying moments, Mbappe scored France’s fourth goal and moved to fifth on France’s all-time scoring list with 38 goals.

Gibraltar lost 0-3 to Greece in the other Group B match.

Belgium easily won their match against Sweden thanks to a hat-trick from Lukaku. But thanks to Austria’s 4-1 win over Azerbaijan, Belgium are second in the group table.

The Czech Republic beat Poland 3–1 in Group E, while Moldova and the Faroe Islands played out a 1–1 draw. In Group G, Bulgaria lost 0-1 to Montenegro while Serbia beat Lithuania 2-0.(IANS)
