Thiruvananthapuram. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan, after feeling a bit bad about being dropped from the playing-11 during the World Cup 2023 after scoring consecutive half-centuries against Australia, is making the most of his opportunities.
Once Shubman Gill recovered from dengue, Ishan Kishan was dropped from the playing-11 after playing two World Cup matches. India had a strong performance in the tournament but the team lost against Australia in the final.
After scoring 58 off 39 balls in the opening match of the T20 series in Visakhapatnam, Kishan scored 52 off 32 balls in the second match in Thiruvananthapuram.
After the match, Ishan told Geo Cinema, “I think it’s all hunger. In the World Cup, we played like a champion team and I missed it. I was feeling a little bad, but you can’t help it.” You can. There will be times in international cricket when you are not playing, but you have to be fresh in your mind and perform when the time comes. When you get the opportunity, you have to be ready for it.”
The ongoing series against Australia is important preparation for India ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA.
Asked about the clarity and fearlessness shown by the youngsters in the team, Kishan said, “When you are not playing and watching the game from outside, you have to see how the big players are playing. They are playing the game. “How they’re driving deep, how they target the bowlers. Those things help a lot.”
