The first match between Italy and Chile took place on Thursday in the ongoing FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier-2024 at Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium in the capital Ranchi. In this, Italy defeated Chile 4-3 after penalty shootout. Italy was ahead 2-1 in the first half of the match played between Chile and Italy. During this period, Bruni Antonella and Carta scored goals for Italy, while the only goal from Chile was saved by Francisca. Ultimately the match ended 2-2.
After this, Italy scored 2 goals in the penalty shootout while Chile team could score only one goal. Italy’s Frederick Carta was chosen as the player of the match. On this occasion, former Sports Minister and Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri, Sports Director Sushant Gaurav and officials of Hockey India were also present.
Apart from the match of New Zealand vs Czech Republic (01:30), two semi-finals are to be played today in the Olympic qualifier match. These include the matches USA vs Japan (semi-finals 04:30) and India vs Germany (semi-finals 07:30). However, the matches between Italy-Chile and New Zealand-Czech Republic are to be played for the fifth to eighth positions. The winning team between Japan-America and America-India will play the final match on January 19. There will be a fight for the third place between the losing teams in the semi-finals.
