Mumbai . Unconfirmed reports from Pakistan claim that the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has withdrawn the men’s Olympic qualifiers from Pakistan due to issues related to the Pakistan Hockey Federation.
FIH has taken the tough decision to withdraw the hosting rights of one of the two Olympic qualifiers from Pakistan due to growing concern over non-cooperation and undue interference in the daily operations of Pakistan hockey, local media in Pakistan reported on Tuesday.
The report could not be independently confirmed as messages sent to the FIH spokesperson remained unanswered on Tuesday.
Pakistan was scheduled to host the men’s Olympic qualifiers along with China and Spain early next year. The Olympic Qualifiers could have been the first major international hockey event in Pakistan since the Champions Trophy in 2004.
In a report, website GeoSuper.TV reported that the Pakistan Hockey Federation was recently suspended by the country’s Sports Board (PSB), making fresh elections mandatory last month.
The report said, “The suspension of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, sanctioned by the state-owned body, PSB, played a significant role in the international body’s decision. In an earlier announcement made in July, the FIH had revealed that China, Pakistan And Spain was selected to host the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers, scheduled to take place between January 13 and 21, 2024.” (IANS)
