Karachi. On the basis of a brilliant all-round performance, South Africa defeated Pakistan women’s team by 127 runs in the first ODI here on Friday. South Africa’s Sune Luus (107 not out) and Marizanne Kapp (100) scored centuries, while Nadine de Klerk (3-23) and Nonkululeko Mlaba (3-39) had excellent performances.
After posting a competitive score of 292/4 in 50 overs, South Africa bowled out hosts Pakistan for 165 runs to seal a big win in the three-match ODI series opener.
The day started on a positive note with interim captain Laura Wolvaardt winning the toss and electing to bat first before reaching a highly competitive 292/4 with the experienced pair of Luce and Kapp making a century stand.
Luus and Kapp came in with South Africa struggling at 64/3 after Tazmin Britts (17), Wolvaardt (17) and Lara Goodall (15) returned to the pavilion. Both added 183 runs for the fourth wicket, in which Sune Luus scored unbeaten 107 runs with the help of seven fours in 129 balls and Kapp scored 100 runs with the help of 12 fours and one six in 105 balls. Nadine de Klerk led the innings by scoring 29 runs in 23 balls.
In reply, Pakistan lost opener Shawal Zulfikar (7 off 15), while veteran Bismah Maroof was dismissed by de Klerk for 10, leaving Pakistan reduced to 35/2 in the 10th over.
Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals and Aliya Riaz scored 49 not out.
