First Test: India bundled out Australia for 177 runs, Jadeja’s claw

Nagpur. Ravindra Jadeja (5/47) and R Ashwin (3/42) struck brilliant spin as Australia were bundled out for 177 in 63.5 overs on the opening day of the first Test at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium here on Thursday. Marnus Labushen (49) and Steven Smith (37) scored the most runs from the team. Apart from Jadeja and Ashwin, Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Shami took one wicket each from India.
Earlier, opting to bat first after winning the toss, India gave two early blows to Australia as Siraj dismissed Ustan Khaija (1) and Shami dismissed David Warner (1). After this, Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith shared 82 runs in 202 balls to take Australia to a strong position.
But in the 36th over, Jadeja (Labushen 49, Matt Renshaw 0) put Australia on the back foot by taking two consecutive wickets. Australia lost four wickets for 84 runs. Somehow Smith took the team’s score beyond 100. But Jadeja bowled him for 37 runs. After this, Ashwin, using his style, bowled Carey for 36 runs to give Australia a sixth blow for 162 runs.
Australia failed to consolidate the innings due to a steady fall of wickets, as Handscomb (31), Pat Cummins (6), Tard Murphy (0) and Scott Boland (1) also went without a show, leaving Australia 177 in 63.5 overs. But limited.(IANS)
