Sydney (Best Hindu News): Former Australia Test captain Brian Booth has passed away at the age of 89. Cricket Australia gave this information on Saturday.
A middle-order batsman, Booth played 29 Tests for Australia between 1961 and 1966, scoring 1,773 runs at an average of 42.21. He also captained Australia in two matches during the Ashes series against England in 1965–66.
Curtis Patterson, who trained with Booth, said, “Brian was really good to me. Ever since I was new to St. George’s. He was a wonderful person and really helped me.”
Booth tried his hand at hockey in addition to cricket for Australia and represented his country at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games.
Cricket Australia chief Nick Hockley said, “Brian was greatly respected and admired by the entire cricket community and beyond. The Australian men’s Test team has been captained by fewer than 50 players and Brian’s name joins that list with many legends of the game. He lived an extraordinary life and we will miss him.”
Booth played 93 first-class matches for New South Wales in the domestic Sheffield Shield, scoring 5,574 runs at an average of 43.5. He was also a life member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
