Former Chief Minister of Bihar Karpoori Thakur received Bharat Ratna, President handed over the honor to Jannayak’s son Ramnath Thakur.

Former Chief Minister of Bihar Jannayak Karpuri Thakur was awarded the country’s highest honor Bharat Ratna. On Saturday, a ceremony was organized in the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi in which 5 personalities of the country received this honour. Today was a historic day for Bihar also. Former CM Karpoori Thakur received the Bharat Ratna award posthumously from his son and JDU MP Ramnath Thakur from President Draupadi Murmu. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and both the Deputy Chief Ministers etc. also participated in this function. A total of 5 personalities have received this honour.

When Karpoori Thakur received the Bharat Ratna award, the present Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar also witnessed this moment. CM Nitish was also present in the function organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Both the Deputy Chief Ministers of Bihar, Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha also participated in this function. An announcement was made from the President’s Office to honor Karpoori Thakur with Bharat Ratna on 23 January 2024, a day before his 100th birth anniversary. It was welcomed by PM Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar and other leaders themselves. The contribution of Karpoori Thakur is always remembered. All the leaders of the party and opposition have welcomed the decision of giving them India.

Let us tell you that Karpoori Thakur is called Jannayak because of his simple lifestyle and corruption-free political journey. He belonged to the barber community. Karpoori Thakur became the Chief Minister of Bihar twice and Deputy Chief Minister once. He never lost an assembly election in his political career. After the end of the Emergency, Karpoori Thakur contested the Lok Sabha elections for the first time from the Samastipur seat in the 1977 Lok Sabha elections. Becoming a Janata Party candidate, he defeated the Congress candidate by more than 3 lakh votes. The record of winning by the longest margin still remains intact. However, Karpoori Thakur lost the 1984 general elections. Even in the wave of sympathy that arose after the assassination of former PM Indira Gandhi, he had given a tough competition to the Congress candidate.
