New Delhi . As part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Apple maker Foxconn is all set to start production of ‘iPhone 15’ at Sriperumbudur near Tamil Nadu. The entire focus of the company is to rapidly expand its manufacturing footprint in India. At the same time, the company aims to establish its foothold in the global market as well.

Sources close to it told IANS that Apple aims to deliver the ‘iPhone 15’ globally by the middle of next month, so that its availability in the market does not decrease after the launch.

According to sources, after manufacturing ‘iPhone 15’ under ‘Make in India’, the company aims to export it to other countries in a short time.

He added that other Apple suppliers in India such as Pegatron and Wistron (acquired by the Tata group) will also assemble the ‘iPhone 15’ at the earliest.

In September last year, Apple started assembling the ‘iPhone 14’ in India, the first time a new iPhone was assembled in the country within weeks of its global launch.

This time the deadline has been brought back by almost a month, so that the locally assembled ‘iPhone 15’ can be available for sale in the country globally just before the festive season, as well as faster exports. Could

Earlier this month, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that the company posted a record June quarter in India on strong iPhone sales.

During the third quarter of fiscal 2023 results, Cook said that “the performance of our new stores in India exceeded our expectations”.

Cook said, “You know we set a revenue record in India in the June quarter and we delivered strong double-digit growth. We also opened our first two stores during this time and of course it’s early stages right now, but they’re performing better than we expected in terms of the way they’re operating.”

He further added that we continue to work on building the company channel and investing more in our direct-to-consumer offering in the country.

“We still have a very small share of this smartphone market, so I think this is a huge opportunity for us and we are putting all our energy into making this happen,” he added.

According to IDC, Apple registered a whopping 61 percent growth in India in the April-June period with the highest average selling price (ASP) of $929.

India is now one of Apple’s top 5 markets globally. The iPhone maker continues to lead in the ultra-premium segment (Rs 45,000 and above).

According to the India Cellular and Electronics Association, Apple’s market share will exceed 50 percent in FY2024.(IANS)
