A social media influencer is a person who has a large number of followers on various social media platforms, and uses this popularity to sell a variety of products. The return on investment in this is more than other advertising mediums.

At present, there is enough potential in the internet market in India, so this phase of social media influencer will continue. But, there are some concerns about them, such as misrepresentation of facts, to avoid this, the need for regulation of the influencer marketing industry is being told.

In January, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs of the Central Government had said that the guidelines in this regard were necessary to protect the interests of the customers. There is a provision for a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh for any misleading advertisement or non-compliance of guidelines.

On continuous contempt, this amount can go up to Rs 50 lakh. Also, endorsing any brand can be stopped for two to six months. Action to block that platform is also possible.
