Indian badminton player Kidambi Srikanth reached the second round of the French Open men’s singles with an impressive win over Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen here on Wednesday, but HS Prannoy crashed out in the first round of this Super 750 badminton tournament.

This was Srikanth’s third win in seven matches against Chen for world number 24, who is working hard to qualify for the Paris Olympics. He won the match that lasted 66 minutes by 21-15, 20-22, 21-8. 2021 World Championship silver medalist Srikanth will face China’s 17th ranked world player Lu Guang Ju in the second round. Guang ended the campaign of India’s HS Prannoy by defeating him 21-17, 21-17.

Srikanth made a brilliant comeback after falling behind in the beginning of the match. They won 14 of the next 17 points to take the first game after trailing 5-7. Chen fought back in the second game and after a tough fight, managed to drag the match to the third and deciding game. Srikanth regained his momentum in the third game and took the lead 7-5, taking nine consecutive points to close the chain.

After this the Taiwanese player collected three points but the Indian player won the match by taking the remaining five points. Prannoy’s game against Guang Xu on the adjacent court lacked consistency. He fell behind after taking the lead in the initial game. Prannoy once again made a comeback and took a lead of 11-8. After this, there was an interesting match between the two players in which Guang Ju leveled the score at 16-16 and then took advantage of Prannoy’s poor game and won the first game.

Prannoy was lagging behind in the second game also. After initially trailing 0-3, he managed to make the score 6-6. During this period, he hit some brilliant smashes against Guang Ju. However, several times his shots went out of the court due to which the Chinese player took an 11-7 lead. Prannoy once again showed great spirit and equalized the score but Guang Ju did not give him a chance to take the lead.

Guang Ju was close to victory with the score of 19-14 but Prannoy made the match interesting by scoring three consecutive points. Guang Ju delivered a powerful smash which hit Pranay’s head. With this score he won the match.
