Gambhir returns to Kolkata Knight Riders as team mentor

Kolkata. Gautam Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, will return to the franchise as the team mentor and will join hands with head coach Chandrakant Pandit, starting from the upcoming season in 2024. The Indian Premier League franchise made this announcement on Wednesday.

Gambhir joined Knight Riders in 2011 and was with the team till 2017. During this period, KKR qualified for the IPL playoffs five times (in which they won the tournament) and also reached the final of the now-defunct Champions League T20 in 2014.

Speaking on his comeback, Gambhir said: “I am not an emotional person and many things don’t impress me. But this is different. It’s back to where it all started. Today, my throat There’s a lump in me and there’s a fire in my heart.”

“About wearing that purple and gold jersey again. I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the city of joy. I am back. I am hungry. I am at number 23. Ami KKR.”

On Gambhir’s return, KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan said: “Gautam has always been a part of the family and it is our captain coming back home in a different avatar as a “mentor”. He is greatly missed and now We all look forward to Chandu sir and Gautam creating the magic with Team KKR that instills the never-say-die spirit and sportsmanship that they stand for.”

The KKR support team is led by head coach Chandrakant Pandit. He is assisted by Abhishek Nair and James Foster as assistant coaches, Bharat Arun as bowling coach and Ryan ten Deschate as fielding coach.
