With Ganimat Sekhon’s silver and Darshana Rathore’s bronze, India won two medals for the first time in women’s skeet at the senior level at the ISSF World Cup here on Tuesday. Kazakhstan’s local contender Esem Orinbay beat Ganimat in the shoot-off to win the gold. Ganimat and Orinbe shot 50-50 each in the 60-shot final. In the shootout, Ganimat missed one of the two targets while Orinbe hit both his targets. It was Ganimat’s second individual World Cup medal while Darshana was assured of a medal in her first final at the senior level.

Earlier on the second day of competition, Darshana equaled the national record with a score of 120 to qualify for the six women’s finals with a second position. Ganimat finished fourth with a score of 117. Orinbe topped the table with 121 points. After 30 shots in the final four matches were left in which Darshana was on top with 25 points while Orinbe was second with 24 points. Darshana was joint third with Barbora of Czech Republic. After the next 10 targets, Barbora was out of the title race and a historic two medals were assured for India. In the men’s skeet, none of the three Indians made it to the finals. Meraj Khan (119) finished tied-16th while Gurjot Khangura finished tied-18th with the same score. Anantjit Singh Naruka was further behind with 118 points.
