Houston. Chris Gayle has been named the captain of the premium West Indies team for the second season of the American Premier League (APL) to be played at the Moses Cricket Stadium here from December 19 to 31.

Of the six other teams playing in the tournament, former India fast bowler S. Sreesanth will lead Premium Indians, Sohail Tanvir will captain Premium Paks, current Afghanistan team captain Mohammad Nabi will guide Premium Afghans. Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting will captain the premium Australian team.

Gayle said, “I am excited to once again wear the captaincy band of the Windies team. Playing in America is like playing on home ground. Cricket as a game had to make a place in America one day and leagues like this.” This is the best time to organize.”

England’s rising star Dan Lawrence, who made his Test debut in Sri Lanka in early 2021, has been named as the captain for the premium Americans who will take on the premium Windies in the opening game of the season.

Punjab-born Canadian Navneet Dhaliwal, who recently came into limelight after leading Canada in the World T20 Qualifier and leading his side to the T20 World Cup 2024, will captain the premium Canadians in his neighboring country.

Gayle was one of the key players to launch the APL at New York’s iconic Times Square a few months ago along with league owners and other international stars like Fawad Alam (Pakistan) and Ravi Bopara (England).

The tournament will begin with the clash between Premium Windies and Premium Americans, while Premium Indians will begin their campaign against the Windies on December 20.
