Gerald Coetzee out of second test against India

Centurion. South Africa fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the second Test against India starting on January 3 after developing pelvic inflammation during the first Test at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) said in a statement that the 23-year-old Coetzee experienced pelvic discomfort, which worsened while bowling on the third day of the match. He was scanned on Friday which revealed the seriousness of the injury.
It added that head coach Shukri Conrad has opted to leave Coetzee out of the squad as a precaution. No other player has been named in his place in the team. Apart from Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen and Nandre Berger, South Africa have other fast bowling options in Lungi Ngidi and Wiaan Mulder.
Coetzee had figures of 1/74 and 0/28 in addition to scoring 19 runs with the bat. South Africa defeated India by an innings and 32 runs in three days in Centurion to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
South Africa lost captain Temba Bavuma to a left hamstring injury on the opening day of the first Centurion Test.
Batsman Zubair Hamzah was named as his replacement for the New Year Test at Newlands, Cape Town.
The Proteas will be captained in the second Test by veteran opener Dean Elgar, who played a match-winning inning of 185 runs in Centurion. The left-handed opening batsman will lead South Africa in his final Test before retiring from international cricket.
