Germany defeats India in Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup

santiago (Uttam Hindu News) – India suffered a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Germany in a thrilling match in the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup on Friday. In today’s match played in Santiago, Chile, for India, Annu scored in the 11th minute, Ropani Kumari in the 14th minute and Mumtaz Khan scored in the 24th minute. For Germany, Sophia Schwabe scored in the 17th minute, Laura Plath in the 21st and 36th minutes and Caroline Seidel in the 38th minute.
The Indian team continued to attack the German defense by creating pressure in the first quarter. Amidst these attacks, India continuously got penalty corners and on the second one, Annu gave the team the lead by scoring a goal. Three minutes later, Ropani scored a goal to increase India’s lead to 2-0 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Sophia scored a field goal for Germany in the second minute and Laura scored the second goal to level the score at 2-2. However, Mumtaz scored a goal in the 24th minute to give India a 3-2 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Laura again brought Germany on par by scoring a goal in the 36th minute. Caroline gave Germany the lead in the match by scoring a penalty corner in the 38th minute.
In the last quarter, both the teams displayed aggressive play but both the teams failed to score a goal. India will face Belgium on Saturday.
