Melbourne: Australia batsman Matt Renshaw has admitted that spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will be the toughest to get a game in the four-Test series against India starting February 9. Ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy starting in Nagpur, everyone’s focus is on how the Australian batsmen play the dashing Indian off-spinner. Ashwin became the first bowler in 2021 to dismiss 200 left-handed batsmen. The Australian team has many talented batsmen including David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, wicketkeeper Alex Kari and Renshaw himself.
Renshaw said that ‘Ashwin is difficult to play’. He is a clever bowler and has got a lot of variation which he uses very well, but it becomes easy after playing for a while. He is a tough challenge for the batsmen. He said, ‘There is a danger of getting caught out in the slip on his turn taking ball but you can be stumped on the ball which does not take spin. Have to be ready for that.
He said that playing in the Big Bash League helped him a lot in preparation as his team was full of spinners. He said that although the situation will be different in India, but we have made complete preparations keeping that in mind. We will have a week’s time when we go to India, in which we will make preparations strong.
