Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh register their first win in the Premier Handball League, defeat proud Gujarat in a thrilling encounter

Jaipur. Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh registered their first win in the first season of the Premier Handball League. It defeated proud Gujarat by a margin of 34-28 on Thursday.

In the 15th match of the inaugural season of the Premier Handball League, proud Gujarat faced winless Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh. Both the teams were looking for a quick start to the match. They were giving each other jitters in the initial minutes of the match and were also fighting it. Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh, however, managed to take the lead thanks to some lethal finishing from Sukhbir Singh Brar, Harjinder Singh and Jyotiram Bhushan Shinde. The Uttar Pradesh team further strengthened their lead after some brilliant saves by Omid Raza at their goal post. Proud Gujarat struggled to score consistently despite excellent efforts from Avin Khatkar and Harendra Singh Nain.

The Golden Eagles were leading till the 15th minute of the game. By that time the score was 9-6 in their favor. The Gujarat team tried to contain Sukhbir to contain the Golden Eagles attack but it was of no effect as Sukhbir, who donned the number 11 jersey for the Golden Eagles, was in excellent touch and kept scoring goals. Gujarat’s Tarun Thakur was also struggling to find the finishing touch in attack. This helped the Uttar Pradesh team to take a good lead. At the end of the first half, the score was 17-11 in favor of Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh.

Proud Gujarat started the second half aggressively. Harendra Singh was throwing his might in attack to reduce the nine goal difference. Unfortunately for Gujarat, the Golden Eagles added another dimension to their attack as Sanchit Kumar came off the bench to get his team going and started to shine. This was the reason that the Golden Eagles further strengthened their lead. Omid Raza, the goalkeeper of the Uttar Pradesh team, was constantly saving goals. Omid’s excellent reflexes did a fine job in keeping Gujarat away from scoring for his team.

Halfway through the second half, the Golden Eagles had built up a substantial lead. The score was 25-18 in their favor while Gujarat’s attack was faltering. The Gujarat players looked frustrated in the last 10 minutes of the game. The Gujarat attack suffered further setbacks as proud Gujarat skipper Avin Khatkar was ruled out of the field with a minor injury. In the last minute of the game, Omid Raza came out from his goal post and went on to score a spectacular goal to decide the match and did it successfully. Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh thus won the match by 34-28.

Harjinder Singh of the Golden Eagles team emerged as the top scorer for his team with 10 goals, while Harendra Singh Nain was the top scorer for the proud Gujarat with 5 goals. Goalkeeper Omid Raza was declared player of the match for his brilliant saves for Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh. He also scored a surprise goal in the match and saved two penalties.

Final Score – Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh – 34, Garvit Gujarat – 28
