Government approves proposal for racewalker Priyanka Goswami, Greco-Roman wrestlers to train abroad

New Delhi . The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in its recent meeting approved the proposal of racewalker Priyanka Goswami to train in Australia under coach Brent Vallance.

Priyanka, who was the first Indian athlete to qualify for the Paris Olympics, will train at a high-altitude training center near Canberra, Australia and will also participate in some local competitions to prepare for the upcoming Olympics.

The financial assistance will cover Priyanka’s airfare, boarding/accommodation costs, expenses for sports science support, coaching fees and out-of-pocket allowance, among other expenses, the ministry said in a release on Friday.

Apart from Priyanka, the MOC has also accepted the proposals of Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Development Group Greco-Roman wrestlers Ashu (67 kg), Suraj (55 kg) and Ronit Sharma (48 kg) for an international training camp in Almaty, Kazakhstan. gave permission.

The ministry said the government will also bear the cost of airfare and boarding/accommodation of the three wrestlers, their coach, physiotherapist and sparring partners as well as out-of-pocket allowances for the three athletes, among other expenses.

Apart from this, shooter Bhavnesh Mendiratta’s proposal for financial assistance for a week’s training with foreign coach Daniele Di Spigno has also been approved.

Spigno will stay in India and train Brownish during the second selection trials. TOPS will cover his airfare, Daniel’s coaching fees, visa costs and boarding and lodging costs for this period.

MOC approved the proposals of shooter Ramita for financial assistance for purchase of shooting kit, archer Yashdeep Bhoge for financial assistance for purchase of archery equipment, para-athlete Pranav Surma for financial assistance for purchase of sports equipment (club). Also approved.

Financial assistance for paddler Manika Batra to participate in WTT feeder Byala, Italy and financial assistance for badminton players Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy for support staff during multiple competitions have also been approved.
