However, I got a call from the government that they are directly sending the name of both of them (Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat) for the Asian Games and asked me to send a mail so that my name can also be sent. Sakshi Malik said that I refused because I did not want direct entry. I have never gone to any tournament without trials and will never do so in future. Along with this, he said that I am against the policy made like making us fight among ourselves in wrestling. He said in his tweet that the government has done the work of breaking the unity of wrestlers by sending names directly to the Asian Games. I have never gone to play without trial nor do I support it. I am disturbed by this intention of the government. We had talked about extending the date of trials, but the government has put this defamation in our pocket.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI)-run ad-hoc committee to explain the grounds for exempting wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia from the Asian Games trials. Justice Subramaniam Prasad, while hearing the pleas of U-20 world champion Anvil Panghal and U-23 Asian champion Sujit Kalkal against direct entry to Phogat and Punia, asked the sports body to file its reply during the day. Listing the matter for hearing on Friday, the judge said, “If this (selection basis) is a fair and just method, then the matter ends here.”
