Mumbai (Uttam Hindu News): Six players have taken a joint lead with 4.5 points out of five after five rounds of the Rs 2.5 lakh Grand Prix Chess Series organized by the Indian Chess School on Saturday. Despite their best efforts, the leaders were unable to break the deadlock, setting the stage for a thrilling finish.
Last night’s much-awaited match between leaders Arnav Kohli and Guru Prakash turned out to be an entertaining encounter in the Cannes edition of Sicilian Defence. Despite Guru Prakash’s early mistake on the 16th move, Arnav’s decision not to kill the g7 pawn kept the game in balance, allowing Guru to remain competitive.
Arnav missed an important chance when Guru made a crucial mistake on move 42. Despite taking advantage of the opportunity, Arnav instead opted for a sustained check, which ultimately resulted in a draw.
Meanwhile, IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni, Arvind Iyer, Mihir Shah and Sanjeev Mishra won against Milind Parle, Ishan Roy, Yohan Boricha and Yash Kapadi respectively. His victory propels him to join Guru and Arnav, resulting in a thrilling six-way tie at the top.
