Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has said that the Legends Cricket Trophy (LCT) is providing an opportunity to retired players to continue playing in a competitive environment.
Sharing his experience from the league, Harbhajan Singh highlighted its importance for retired players.
He said, ‘For the last two to three years, leagues have started happening with retired players. This provides an opportunity for retired players to continue playing in a competitive environment.
He also praised the LCT 90-ball format for providing a balanced cricket experience.
Harbhajan said, ‘The LCT 90 format adds a new dimension to the game, giving players an opportunity to showcase their talent in different aspects of the game.
‘It is different from other formats in that there are four powerplays and the batsman has the option to choose between 10 and 15 powerplays. Also, the best bowler can bowl four overs, making it favorable for retired players.
Reflecting on his initial reaction to the 90-ball format, Singh noted the simplicity of the options available.
He said, ‘Whenever a new format is introduced, it takes some time to understand it. However, as a batsman, it is beneficial to have the option of powerplay against strong bowlers.
Singh also praised the format for allowing longer gameplay than T10 cricket.
He said, ‘There is limited time to play in T10, but in LCT 90 ball format, it is possible to play for a long time. It is beneficial for us, especially when we have strong bowlers like Malinga.
In contrast to the fast pace of T10 cricket, LCT 90 encourages a strategic approach, promoting intense battles between bat and ball.
Singh highlighted the format’s potential to challenge players, increase the quality of competition and audience engagement.
