Hardik breaks silence regarding World Cup injury

New Delhi. During the World Cup 2023, India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya suffered an ankle injury during the match against Bangladesh, after which he had to be ruled out of the entire tournament. It was a match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, when Hardik twisted his ankle and walked out of the stadium.

After this, fast bowler Mohammed Shami was replaced in the tournament.
Hardik told Star Sports that I am the kind of cricketer who does not start 2-3 months in advance, I started my journey for this World Cup a year ago, I had planned my routine one and a half years in advance. And acted accordingly.

It was a different injury, very few people know about it but my injury was prolonged and I had to take more time off because when I was injured it was a 25-day rehabilitation injury but I was missing the World Cup. So, I tried very hard because I had to get back on the field. I told the team that I would be back in 5 days.

I got injections in three different places on my ankle and I had to have blood drained from my ankle because it was so swollen. In a way, I didn’t want to give up. At one point I also realized that I was putting myself at greater risk and could get injured in the long run.

For me it was never an answer, I was like if there is one percent chance, I can stay with the team. I would try my best and when I was pushing myself, but my injury got worse and I had to take a long break. I couldn’t even walk at that time but I was trying to run. As I tried to push myself for 10 days and took pain killer tablets. The biggest pride for me is to play for the country and there can be no greater pride than playing for the country.

Hardik is now ready for his new role as the captain of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024. This all-rounder has become the captain of the 5-time champion team in place of Rohit Sharma. In 2022, Hardik helped Gujarat Titans win their first IPL title by defeating Rajasthan Royals in the final. Whereas last year, under his captaincy, Gujarat reached the finals for the second consecutive time. However, this time he did not get the trophy.
