Mumbai | Mumbai Indians fast bowler Akash Madhwal has described Suryakumar Yadav as an ‘extraordinary’ batsman and believes that the right-handed batsman is the best batsman he has played so far in his cricketing career.

On Friday, Suryakumar scored his maiden IPL century, hitting 11 fours and six sixes in his unbeaten 103 off 49 balls. He completed the century off the last ball of the innings with a six to set the stage for Mumbai’s 27-run victory over Gujarat Titans.

Madhwal said at the post-match press conference, “He is very difficult to bowl to. I have bowled to very good batsmen, but Skye is exceptional. The shots he practices in the nets are the same as when he Let them play on the field.”

“So it is very difficult to bowl to him. Even in practice matches, he plays these kind of shots from anywhere. The best thing about these shots as a bowler during practice matches is Madhwal said, “I have not seen anyone bat like him so far.”

With the ball, Madhwal was impressive, taking three for 31 as Gujarat lost their five wickets for 55 runs. Gujarat could not chase down the target of 219 despite an unbeaten 79 from Rashid Khan. The Uttarakhand pacer revealed that skipper Rohit Sharma had entrusted him with the responsibility of the new ball.

“My role before this match was to bowl the end overs but Rohit Bhaiya had informed me a day before the match after watching me in the nets that I would be bowling the powerplay overs. He told me to be ready and when the opportunity came Thankfully, I was ready to cash in.”

“It was not easy to bowl slower in such conditions so we stuck to the basics and thankfully executed them very well. Our plan against the Titans was very simple. We bowled initially with the intention of restricting them for runs. That’s why I stayed to my strengths, I was bowling hard lengths during my four-over spell.”

Now placed third in the points table with 14 points from 12 matches, Mumbai’s next match in IPL 2023 will be against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
