Advocate Ravinder Malik, representing Haryana Wrestling Association, said that HWA is a registered society in the state and is affiliated to WFI. He said that according to the WFI rules and constitution, any recognized RO can send two representatives to vote in the WFI elections. HWA’s counsel said that another body, the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association, has claimed that it is affiliated with the WFI as well as the Haryana Olympic Association (HOA).
The Haryana Amateur Wrestling Federation claimed that the HWA could not participate in the election process as it was not affiliated with the WFI. The lawyer said, “The returning officer ruled in favor of the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association and said that they along with the Haryana Wrestling Association fulfill the conditions to get recognition from the WFI.” We have challenged the decision of the Returning Officer in the High Court which states that Haryana Amateur Wrestling Federation may be affiliated to WFI, but it is not affiliated to HOA, which means it is not entitled to participate in the election process ‘
HWA representative Malik said, “If the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Federation is allowed to participate in the election process, it will lead to prejudice and also invalidate the WFI elections.”
The court took cognizance of this and said that it can cause prejudice to anyone and prima facie it seems that Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association is not eligible to vote. The High Court Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj’s court has stayed the WFI elections. The Indian Olympic Association had appointed an ad-hoc panel to run the WFI which had earlier fixed July 6 as the date for the election but the unrecognized state units of Maharashtra, Haryana, Telangana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh approached the panel for a hearing which was rejected. Later the date of election was fixed for 11th July. These state units had said that it was not right to exclude them.
The ad hoc panel heard the representatives of these states but still the elections could not be held on July 11 as the Assam Wrestling Association approached the Gauhati High Court seeking the right to participate in the election process and the court subsequently stayed the elections Gave. The Supreme Court had subsequently stayed the Gauhati High Court’s order, paving the way for the elections to be held on August 12, but Friday’s order has put a question mark on the election process.
