New Delhi, 27 January (HS). Hockey India on Saturday announced the 24-member Indian women’s hockey team for the Bhubaneswar and Rourkela leg of the FIH Pro League 2023-24. The Bhubaneswar phase will begin on February 3 and end on February 9 while the Rourkela phase will begin on February 12 and continue till February 18.
India will face visiting teams, United States, Netherlands, China and Australia twice each in both the legs, starting their campaign against defending Asian Games champions China on February 3. Experienced goalkeeper Savita has been selected to lead the Indian women’s hockey team as captain, while experienced forward Vandana Kataria will serve as the vice captain for the FIH Pro League 2023-24.
Indian women’s hockey team head coach Janneke Schopman said on the team selection, “We have some young players coming for the FIH Pro League 2023-24. The league is very important for us as the champions will secure their place in the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026. We will try to create synergy among the team and the team is looking forward to facing some of the best teams in the world. “Our aim will be to start our campaign strong and continue to improve throughout the league.”
Indian women’s hockey team is as follows-
goalkeeper : Savita (Captain), Scorpion Goddess Kharibam.
Defenders: Gurjeet Kaur, Nikki Pradhan, Udita, Ishika Chaudhary, Monica, Jyoti Chhatri.
Midfielder: Nisha, Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, Neha, Navneet Kaur, Salima Tete, Sonika, Jyoti, Baljeet Kaur, Sunelita Toppo.
Forward: Mumtaz Khan, Beauty Dungdung, Lalremsiami, Sangeeta Kumari, Deepika, Vandana Kataria (Vice Captain), Sharmila Devi.
