Hockey India announces 33-member Indian women’s hockey team core group. Loktej Sports News

Bengaluru, April 8 (Hindustan Reporter) Hockey India on Monday announced the 33-member Indian women’s hockey team, which will continue training at SAI Bengaluru till May 16. These 33 players have been selected from the 60-member assessment team that reported for the camp on April 1 after selection trials held on April 6 and 7.

This group of 33 players will be in the running to form the team that will take part in future coaching camps and international exposure tours. The Indian women’s hockey team will travel to Antwerp and London to face Argentina, Belgium, Germany and Great Britain in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24 later this year.

The shortlisted team includes goalkeepers Savita, Bichu Devi Kharibam, Bansari Solanki and Madhuri Kindo. The defenders selected for the core group are Nikki Pradhan, Udita, Ishika Chaudhary, Monica, Ropani Kumari, Mahima Chaudhary, Jyoti Chhatri and Preeti.

Marina Lalramnaghaki, 22, who represented Hockey Mizoram in the recently concluded 14th Hockey India Senior Women’s National Championship, and Manisha Chauhan, 25, who represented Hockey Manipur, have also been included in the team. Notably, Preeti Dubey, who made her last appearance for the Indian women’s hockey team in the Hockey World League semi-finals in 2017, has made a comeback into the national setup after impressing the selectors and coaches at the assessment camp.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Madhuri Kindo, defenders Ropani Kumari and Preeti, midfielder Edula Jyoti, and forwards Deepika Soreng and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal have stepped down from the junior Indian women’s hockey team participating in the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2023.

Expressing his expectations from the new core group, Hockey India High Performance Director Herman Cruz said, “The 14th Hockey India Senior Women’s National Championship was used to select the best hockey players from across the country and last week the coaches and selectors has worked ahead and selected these 33 players who they believe have the potential to take the Indian women’s hockey team to new heights. “We now have a promising team that will participate in the upcoming international tours and the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24.”
