Pakistan coach Siegfried Aikman is one of the possible candidates. His relations with the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) have soured due to non-payment of salaries. If that issue is not resolved, Aikman will take the PHF to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and seek new work opportunities. Aikman has spent a lot of time as the coach of the Japan team. He told The Times of India that he is interested in the post.
Shane McLeod
An interesting choice among foreign coaches would be Shane McLeod. If he decides to apply for the role of head coach. He took Belgium to great heights by winning the 2018 World Cup and Olympic gold in Tokyo. McLeod left his job as head coach of Belgium after the Tokyo Olympics. He agreed to return after a break as Michel van den Heuvel’s assistant. Thus, McLeod was in Odisha with the Belgian team.
roelant oltmans
Another name in the running for the candidature is Roelant Oltmans, former India coach and high performance director. He is currently employed by the Government of Madhya Pradesh as an advisor to academies in the state. Oltmans was also in Odisha during the World Cup and was seen interacting with Hockey India officials.
Harendra Singh
One possible candidate is former India coach Harendra Singh. But it depends on how much Hockey India can shell out for Harendra, who is serving as the head coach of the US senior men’s national team. India’s 2016 Junior World Cup winning coach Harendra had led India’s senior team to the quarter-finals in the 2018 World Cup. Harendra is familiar with the Indian hockey ecosystem and unlike a foreign coach, he does not need to introduce or know the players.
