Hockey: Mizoram reached quarter finals after defeating Punjab

Pune (Uttam Hindu News): Hockey Mizoram secured the 7th position by defeating Hockey Punjab 4-2 in the quarter-finals of the 14th Senior Women’s National Championship 2024 at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar, Pimpri on Monday. The win took Hockey Mizoram to the top of Pool F with three wins from three matches, ahead of Hockey Punjab, Hockey Himachal and Hockey Rajasthan.
Lalrinpui (6th, 9th minute) scored two goals, while captain H Lalrutfeli (26th) and Marina Lalramanghaki (54th minute) converted two penalty corners for the winning team. The goals for Hockey Punjab were scored by Taranpreet Kaur (35th) and Rajvinder Kaur (51st) on the penalty corner.
Thus, Hockey Mizoram has joined Hockey Madhya Pradesh, Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Jharkhand, Hockey Haryana, Hockey Association of Odisha and Hockey Bengal in the knockout round and yet one more team from Pool G will reach the knockout stage. In the quarter finals, Hockey Madhya Pradesh will face Hockey Bengal, Hockey Jharkhand will face Hockey Mizoram and Hockey Haryana will face Hockey Association of Odisha.
Hockey Maharashtra’s opponent in the quarter-finals will be decided on Tuesday as they will face the winners of Pool G.
Meanwhile, in other matches on Monday, Assam Hockey defeated Puducherry Hockey 2-1 in the Pool D match. Priyanshi Singh (25th, 33rd minute) converted two penalty corners for Assam Hockey, while R Kaviya (24th minute) scored for Puducherry Hockey.
