Lithium Reserve Found In J&K Usage: For the first time in India, 59 lakh tonnes of lithium reserves have been found in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the information given by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) has confirmed 59 lakh tonnes of lithium resource (G3) for the first time in the Salal-Haimana area of Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir.
This is the first site of Lithium reserves, which has been done by the Geological Survey of India (GSI). Lithium is a non-ferrous metal and is used to make batteries for devices such as electric vehicles and mobile phones. Currently, lithium is imported from Australia-Argentina and other countries. Now the exploitation of its reserves in Reasi district will reduce the country’s dependence on imports.
Lithium is a non-ferrous metal used in rechargeable batteries for mobile phones, digital cameras, laptops and electric vehicles. Apart from this, it is also used for toys and watches. At present, India is completely dependent on other countries for lithium. Mines Secretary Vivek Bhardwaj said, for the first time in the country, lithium reserves have been discovered in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi.
He said, be it mobile phones or solar panels, vital minerals are required everywhere. To become self-sufficient, it is very important for the country to find and process important minerals. He also said that if we reduce imports, we will become self-reliant. During the 62nd Central Geological Programming Board (CGPB) meeting, a report on 51 mineral blocks including Lithium and Gold was submitted to the State Governments.
