Hospice: Ravichandran Ashwin worked on different actions and paces during the Test series against England and the star off-spinner said experimenting without paying attention to external reactions is the secret to his success in different conditions in India. The fifth and final Test match played here against England was Ashwin’s 100th Test match. He took maximum 26 wickets in the five-match series.
“Throughout the series, I bowled with different actions and speeds,” Ashwin said after India’s innings and 64-run win in the fifth match. Circumstances are different in India. Every ground here has its own challenges. I never feel uncomfortable about what people think about me.” The 37-year-old player said that the mindset of adding new dimensions to his bowling has benefited him.
He said, “If I believe that I can try something new, then I never step back from it.” I always keep my ears and eyes open to get good feedback.” Ashwin said, ”How will I learn unless I try. I’m not saying that any one of my methods isn’t working but luckily experimenting and learning something new has helped me.
Ashwin took 5 wickets for 77 runs in England’s second innings on Saturday. Earlier, he had also taken 5 wickets for 51 runs in the second innings of the fourth Test match in Ranchi. He termed both of these as his best performances in the five-Test series.
He said, “I am really happy with the way I bowled in these two spells. I was very happy with the performance of the second innings in Ranchi.” Ashwin also praised his fellow spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who took 19 wickets in four Test matches.
He said, “The way the ball is coming out of Kuldeep’s hand is unbelievable. It’s great to see the wrist spinner in such flow and the way he has transformed over the last 10 months and this series.
